Social Media is a two-way street!

Why companies such as the “big yellow looking book” are not longer effective?

Simple, they are only pushing their content one way!

Social Media is a combined effort

Social Media is a combined effort

Now, if you read back to my other posts, I was discussing the various forms of Social Media outlets, such as: Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Given the nature of these posts, let me ask you something.

As a business owner, how are you doing with your Social Media accounts? Are you progressing through them yourself? Are you active? If you are not doing them yourself and have a Social Media agency managing them for you, are you still participating to some extent?

Reason I’m asking is because, you must know that contributing to social media accounts is a combined effort between two parties. If you didn’t know this, well, now you know. Being a co-owner of an international marketing agency, I have come across many potential clients who were not part of the percentage of business owners who felt social media needs to be a combined effort. Guess what? We’ve passed them by. Why? Based on the entirety and delicate nature of Social Media, here are our reasons for why they may not be the right client for us:

Bought followers…are they credible?

Did you know that, nowadays, you can purchase your followers, rather than Organic followers on Twitterhave them uniquely given to you?

You’re probably wondering…what do you mean I can ‘buy’ my followers?

Well, there are many online platforms out there in the world today where you can pay a certain amount and your followers will be bought for you. For example, there is a certain website, which I am not going to name names for discretionary purposes, where you can pay as little as $15 and you will receive at least 500 followers. And, of course, it can go up from there. Crazy, huh?

So, although that all seems fine and dandy and it may seem credible through the eyes of the viewer, let me ask you this. If you buy your followers, how credible are you… really? While we are on that subject, here’s another question for you…How credible are your bought followers? Let me answer that for you. They aren’t. Why? Well, for starters, they are bought. Plain and simple. If that’s not clear enough for you, here’s a bit of a more detailed description. Say, you bought 2,000 followers on Twitter, just for the sake of it. And you are only following a couple hundred Twitterers…and your tweets are minimal. Well, that right there just doesn’t show your credibility. That equation just doesn’t make any sense. If anything, you and your business will lose the credibility rather than gain it. Why? For one simple reason…your followers are NOT organic. In other words, they are not real. Your following base is just not true. They are not following you because they want to follow you…They are following you because they are bought. These followers are non-existent Twitter accounts, also known as Bots, who are computer generated. You will NOT increase your business with these types of followers, nor will you gain the respect needed for your business.

Consistency is key…

So, in the last blog post, I talked a bit about how Social Media may not be for everyone. I discussed how you must obtain three certain characteristics if you wish to succeed fruitfully in this modern technology: passion, hard work and consistency. I also discussed a bit about passion and hard work in the other post, however I promised that the consistency factor will be the main focal point of this post.

So, here goes…. what is consistency? According to a Google search, being consistent means unchanging in achievement or effect over a period of time. So how does consistency affect Social Media? Because, Social Media is all about engagement and education. It is about allowing your viewers to learn something new about your company and industry. However, that’s not all there is to it. In order to actually engage your viewers and interact with them, you need to show consistency. Think about the Brick commercial for a moment. If you pay attention, you will notice that this commercial plays over and over again throughout the day…multiple times a day every day. See, that’s the key right there. You need to remain constant and continuously get your viewer’s attention… EVERY DAY!! You can’t just go strong and do it Business social media every day and then forget about it and start up again every few days. No, it just doesn’t work that way! Does that make sense? If you are not constant, how will you expect to see any results with your Social Media campaign at all? It’s just NOT going to happen!

So, bottom line, that is where the passion shines through. You NEED to enjoy what you’re doing in order to keep doing it. If you just think of it as work, then of course, you’ll forget about and get lazy and that’s where the inconsistency starts.

So, keep at it, love what you are doing and then you will witness the fruits of your labour. ENJOY IT!!!

Educate…Interact…Engage! Is Social Media right for you?

So, it’s been a while since my last blog post. So many wonderful things have happened these last few weeks. Has anyone felt the same way? Of course, Social Media continues to amaze me! It’s so powerful…especially if you know how to use it. Social Media is constantly changing every day, so you need to be consistent otherwise it will bite you in the bum!

Speaking of consistency, you have no idea how many times I have come across that word in the last few weeks. That word seemed to be coming across many conversations this last little while that I just had to post about it. As many of you probably know, consistency is key in order to effectively utilize Social Media. Think of Social Media as a plant. A plant begins to grow at the roots and as you keep watering it, it continues to grow and grow. However, if you stop watering it, even for a day, it starts to dry out and then eventually it will die and lose the momentum of ever growing into a beautiful, more livelier plant. Perhaps a beautiful rose bush. Now, think about Social Media and the power of consistency behind it. Right now, Social Media is constantly growing…it started as a tiny seedling and now, as we keep ‘watering’ it, we will begin to educate and engage prospects and it will just continue to grow from there. That’s what consistency is all about. Educate. Interact. Engage. Be consistent at all three points and you will be successful.

However, did you know that, as an entrepreneur, you need to constantly engage at least 10 minutes per day, without fail? Why? Simply put..Social Media is your seedling…it is your opportunity to sow…what do you want to do with it? Are you going to help it grow or are you just going to let it dry out and disperse? Social Media is an ever changing environment and it constantly craves even more attention every day. Maybe you don’t have the time to focus particularly on your online presence and that’s ok. We understand. That’s why you contract companies, such as ours to oversee your online presence for you. However, as a simple rule of thumb: you must be a part of your online presence as well. Social Media is a mutual engagement between both parties…we are a team. If a prospect attempts communication with you regarding your services, then you must communicate back. I mean, let’s face it. You know your business a heck of a lot better than any Social Media team out there. We deliver the leads…you take the next step and follow up with them. That’s the bottom line. Social Media is about mutually and actively participating in the engagement of online prospects.

If, for some reason, you just can’t commit to engagement, then maybe Social Media is not for you. It’s that simple. You forward us fresh, new content. We deliver it. We give you prospects. You follow up. Plain and simple.

Bottom line…the power of communication is in your hands. Figure out what’s right for you and we’ll go from there.

Sales Media vs. Social Media… There IS a difference!

So, I’ve always spoken in these posts about Social Media and its true value to society. However, looking back at previous meetings, I felt it fitting to discuss Social Media differences. You are probably asking what that means…well, I have been in several preliminary meetings with clients where we are discussing the value of Social Media and this is usually the first question that comes out of each client’s mouth: When am I going to sell through Social Media??

Because of this oh so popular question, I felt the need to make everybody aware of one important thing: YOU ARE NOT GOING TO SELL THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA!!! Well, let me rephrase that…There is a slight possibility of that happening, however there are some things that need to be taken care of first. I will explain later. Anyway, I felt that I must stress this point out because some people have the wrong first impression of Social Media. As a Social Media Director for my company, I don’t want to give out the wrong idea. After all, this is called Social Media…not Sales Media!

Allow me to explain. As I’ve mentioned several times in previous posts, Social Media is all about earning credibility and creating brand awareness for your company. It’s about creating trust. It’s about throwing your name out there and getting it on the map. Prospective clients will begin to know who you are through Social Media. You need to build a network in order to sell your product or service. This is when Sales Media comes into play. However, it doesn’t stop here. Building credibility and creating trust will take some time. It’s not going to happen tomorrow or the next day or the day after that. Refer to my Relationship Analogy. Before you even begin to date someone, you need to create a friendship with that person and endure trust. Then perhaps you will possibly take it to the next level. Social Media is in the same boat. It’s about building relationships and making them last. Earn credibility first, sell second. It’s not the other way around.

Social Media just opens up so many endless advertising possibilities that it becomes a whole other realm. Do Social Media right and you are golden. Endure that credibility we’ve been talking about and you are all set.

Keeping it social.
